A Week of Top-Fives: Day Three, Long Boots

My ode to the long boot could last for days. I love them, revere them and have a real problem with restraining myself from buying them whenever I see them, even if I already have a pair that's pretty similar. They're all just so awesome!

I had a hell of a time picking boots out for this post. I wanted to show a lot more, but I limited myself to stiletto-heeled long boots only.

J's is a master when it comes to working the prims, and the texturing is always amazingly well-done. He told me not so long ago that he doesn't like to advertise himself, he only likes to make shoes. So besides his own update group, his only real form of advertisement is his amazing workmanship and killer options, like colour-change menus on the fatpacks, so you only have to have one pair in your inventory, not 12.

When the new incarnation of the Bax Prestige boots came out, I was in heaven, and they were my introductory post on this very blog. The best thing about these boots, besides the gorgeous texturing and amazing sculpty work, is the awesome features. When you buy them, they come boxed. You can unbox them in the store, and then either fit them yourself (because they are designed to fit very tightly to your leg) or have one of the very friendly store staff help you with the cool remote script system. Once you have one pair fitted perfectly to your shape, you can unbox any others you may have purchased and the store will automatically recognize you and ask if you'd like to use the last settings! Once you say yes, your boots will automatically fit to you like a glove. That, and the tonal colour change menu makes every Linden spent well worth it.

SLink's Sydney boots are beautiful works of architectural wonderment. I tried to imagine how I could ever wear these in real life, and I decided I can't. I'd love to, but I'd fall flat on my face. Luckily, my avatar doesn't have the same problem and she can happily prance around in these all day, and dance around all night.

YourSkin & YourShape is a store that's fairly new to me, never having heard of them before hosting them at the shoe fair this year. I can't imagine how I ever lived without them though, because their stock is absolutely amazing. The Big Sur boots come in lots of colours, and they'll go with anything from your favourite pair of jeans (hello Decoy, my ass loves you!) to a cute little dress.

Tesla is a big name in footwear, and there's little reason to wonder why. The Angelina boots were one of those purchases that I absolutely had to make, even though I have other boots that are similar (except for the fun laces detail at the back). Of course they're resizable and you can find a colour and look to suit whatever you're wearing.

Shoe Shopping: Then & Now

Just a quick post in response to Sophia Harlow's challenge to take a look at our avatars when we were younglings and compare that to how we look now. Naturally I was always a stylish chick from day one! My RL big sister (by 3 minutes) Ketsy, rescued me from Orientation Island and had me made over within 2 hours.

Some of my first shoes in SL were from Sylphie's Prim Seduction, and lo and behold, here I am in early 2007 shopping in style at Sylphie's wearing a great dress from Ivalde. Gotta love that retro girl look! Fast forward to present day, still hanging out in the shoe stores, this time it's Stiletto Moody. Gotta love how far shoes have come since then... and skins, and hair, etc. Thanks Sophia, this was a fun one!

Hello Heavy Heels!

New, or soon to be released at Periquita, the Hello Heavy Heels by Erpla Prieto. Funny story about Erpla, when her avatar was very new to designing in SL, she stopped me while I was wandering around Fashion Mode 2 (Anyone remember that place?) and asked if I would look at a shoe she had sculpted. She had no clue who I was, and I told her I would be happy to look at them. They were a bit rough, but even back then I loved the playful quality and color so much that I encouraged her to try selling them, and sent her off to Retrology to get a very small stall in the Obscure Finds Flea Market. I then sat back and watched her creations get better and better, and I am so glad to be able to share her latest with you.

OK, so about these Hello Heavy Heels, another very quirky and cute pump, this one with a very distinct curled heel. The shoes are scripted to let you mix and match heel and main body shades, or even wear them as a full black pump. And yeah my hair is a bit out there, it's a new one from booN, but that one hanging curl felt so right with these fun shoes.

A Week of Top-Fives: Day Two, Ankle Boots

I used to not really be a fan of ankle boots. I don't know why exactly, but if I couldn't wear it up to my knees or under trousers, they weren't for me. I don't know what I was thinking though! I love them. I love that ankle boots can be anything from ankle skimming impossibly high-heeled wonders of modern shoe architecture to the most casual laid-back comfy sock extensions (though those will be featured on a different day!)

LeLutka's Shavon boots were released very recently, along with their Ultra fashion collection. A platform boot available in many many colours, these are amazingly gorgeously textured and executed. I hope they come out with similar under-knee boots ;)

Kookie came out with the Athena ankle boots at the start of the shoe fair, and they quickly took the grid by storm, or at least the blogging community. Every detail, from the seam down the front centre of the boot to the small chain holding the dangling K (for Kookie!) is perfection.

The Kalnins Fall ankle boots are really well-detailed with tons of cool features, one being that they are a flat rate price, and colour scripted with around a dozen textures, and the main body, the sole and the straps can all be different. So there are endless possibilities there. The texturing is really good as well, though you'd probably have to be into metallics to love them.

I'd never been to G-Field before the shoe fair this year, and omg I was totally missing out! The Ribbon Boots are so so cute with the contrasting colour behind the ribbon and bow, and the texturing is sublime. These are obviously not meant to be worn under pants, so show them off!

Coco's fast becoming one of my favourite places to shop, with so many different looks and styles that anyone could find their new favourite in. The Zipper Booties are but just one of the many kinds of shoes. These are definitely meant to show off too, and not just hide under pants.

A Week of Top-Fives: Day One, Sneakers

I was going to do this on my blog, as part of my week of favourites, but you know what? Shoes are way too important in my SLife to only pick five pairs. I mean, I can pick five in each *category* of my shoe inventory, and I could not figure out how I'd ever narrow that down. Then I had a brainwave and I decided that instead of doing only five on my blog, I could do five in each of seven categories, every day of the week on this blog! See how the cheater of her own blogging rules will justify herself, not to mention getting around those aforementioned rules?

Anyhow....

Today we're going to look at sneakers. Before I show you any, it should be noted that most of these are a blatant ripoff of shoes found IRL. People can debate the morality and legality of that all they like, but I'm not getting into it here.

These are Akeyo's Low-Rise Chucks. I've had these forever, but I still love them so much. There's other versions, I know, and they're probably great. But even *I* try not to buy shoes from different people that are like virtually the same (when it comes to sneakers, anyhow). What I love about these is that I can have the laces open or closed. And these are scripted to colour-change as well.

Hoorenbeek Nylon Trainers are fairly obvious as to their inspiration, but it's pretty cool that I can own them in both RL and SL. These come in a bajillion colours, though sadly not in a colour-changeable fatpack variety. They are scripted for resizing though.

The Soreal Superstars were one of my favourite releases last year, and in fact I got them just before I went on hiatus, just in time to feature them for something I wrote. Though I can't actually remember where I featured them (it was on my blog or in Second Style magazine), I do remember squeeing with delight when I got them. These are fully scripted for colour-changing and sizing, and I absolutely love the slightly beat-up look they've got.

Urban Bomb Unit was for a long time *the* place to get these real life replicas, the Porn Stars, no one else really made them. While there are others now, and they're great, the Porn Stars somehow manage to stay at the top of the heap.

A new kid on the block, 2Real Okelli of 2Real has released his first pair of shoes, the aptly-named Diagonals. They come in lots of colours and designs too, and they're very well done. He's self-taught as well, which is really impressive. This is definitely an up-and-comer to watch.

A couple of quick hits from Nardcotix today, hard to believe that this is my final post for 2009! Nardya Rousellot has just released a fantastic basic pump in 20 great shades and there is a special pre-release of the Nuria MaryJanes to accompany a great look from DCNY Clothing Co. too!

The Nuria MaryJanes (in Black & White) were sent to me for a peek weeks ago, and I had forgotten all about them until I was shooting some ads for DCNY, they were a perfect match with the new outfit so I contacted Nardya to release the preview pair at the DCNY Store today, to correspond with the release of the Madelene Outfit. Yay!

Today LeLutka designer, Minnu Palen, sent over the updated footwear collections first seen on the LeLutka ULTRA Runway. The Saffron Pumps and the Shavon Ankle Boots have both been seen on this blog before, but now I have the full range of colors to play with, and there are just so many, particularly in the Saffrons, that I could never really show them all... you will need to go see these for yourself.

The Saffron Pumps are those super tall stilettos with the built in platform for an extra high punch. They come in an amazing number of colors you will have a very hard time choosing between; Neutrals, Soft Colors, Two-toned and Electric brights. I even mixed and matched my brights to suit the amazing Dada Aurelia leggings from the set available for a limited time from Designers United.

Designers United was really the fashion source for much of what you see in this post, the colors and quality seemed to pair so well with this footwear. The corset of the incredible Veschi creation, Veschi-ville by Alla Ruff, pairs perfectly with the two-toned Saffrons in Terracotta and Brown. Moving on to the Shavon boots, I simply could not resist this fabulousness from Runo Runo, '5 Minutes to Curtain', and the Pearl leather boots seemed a great match.

Finally, my long romance with corsets emerged and I grabbed up this beautiful 'Dancer by Day' Dress from Twosome. Instead of the long bustled skirt it came with, I chose the ruffled pantalettes that are meant to be worn under the Vaudeville Dress by Oyakin, to go with the amazing Olive shade of the ankle boots.

An Ultra Post

Ok, So... I was extremely excited to be part of the LeLutka ULTRA runway show yesterday, not only was it a top notch presentation of the more avant garde side of SL fashion, it was also a chance to walk the runway in another great MAD Agency production. The design team behind LeLutka created some incredible pieces, some are not as suited for everyday life or SLife as others, but the quality of the individual components is magnificent, and I challenged myself to mix and match items from the collection, and naturally, the new footwear, to create some more accessible looks, still high fashion, but not out of reach for the average fashionista.

This is just an early look at the new footwear that will be released soon in multiple colors and combinations, the 2 styles show here are the Saffron Pumps, a sky high über stiletto with a combined platform sole, and the Shavon Boots, a short boot with layers of shape, straps and metal buckles. These items are well suited to the runway, but are equally happy paired with dresses, gowns and casuals with a more mainstream appeal.

All the clothing, skins and accessories shown are from the new collection by LeLutka, with the exception of the dark brown hairstyles with can be found at booN, the Blue Eyes from MADesigns, and the pair of opera gloves, credit to COCO. Now, obviously, the term 'Real Life' is used loosely, we all know that SL is not RL, and in case you hadn't noticed I am not wearing my typical shape, but one specifically for the LeLutka ULTRA production. It's that time of year again, Festival of Lights... yada, yada, yada. I spent the first night of Hannukah... or Chanukkah (actually there are 17 acceptable spellings of the word - I looked it up), seeking out the last of the Down the Chimney Hunt goodies. And then it was home to unwrap a very special gift from my girl Abraxxa Anatine of Earthstones. Last year she gave me the most gorgeous Menorah, but this year she went all out and gave me her new Dreidel Game, complete with golden coin 'gelt' for the really heavy holiday gambling. Anyhow, enough about the latkas and donuts, I guess we should get to the boots now.

MEB, the fashion house created by MariaElena Barbosa, has always included footwear with it's complete outfits, and while the shoes were nice they were never really the main focus. More recently though, MEB has introduced a much more detailed and unique assortment of shoes, ones that accompany the clothing collection nicely, but also stand alone in an updated shoe department, full of boots, sandals and heels to suit many tastes. The Suede & Studs Boots come in a quartet of great shades, capped off with a rolled knit topper. Cute and comfy, and perfect for attacking a gridwide hunt... though I can't say I will be doing another any time soon.

Shai Lizard Boots

Shai Delacroix has long been considered a major talent, and everything she endeavors to undertake seems to turn to gold.

So it's about time to she turned her attention to the foot.

The Lizard boot is the first of its kind, and hopefully not the last. Blending classic styling with her own unique twists, this boot is a great staple to fit into your wardrobe seamlessly.

There are six colours available, at L$400 each. Unfortunately, there is no fatpack, and more distressingly, there is no demo. Hopefully, that will come soon, because it's a very rare thing that I buy a shoe without a demo. Because it's Shai, though, I did.

Shoes for a Fairy Princess

The newest collaboration between Love Soul and R2 has produced a gorgeous pair of sandals, fit for a wedding or a fancy occasion, or hell, even shopping.

The details are exquisite, from the rose to the nail decorative art. Which, luckily, is removable. Because I'm not a girl who can wear decorative things on my toenails. I absolutely love every detail of this shoe, and the HUD included is really great. It is very clear and easy to use, with three switchable tabs, and the entire thing can be minimized.

The one disappointing this about this shoe is the foot, specifically the shading and shadows. They're a little overdone for me, and I think they make the foot look a tad dirty (viewed in my standard Caliah preset), and a bit strained. I also found it tough to tint it to my skintone (in fact, I changed skintones to make an easier time of it) but that may just be my being spoiled by other creators who include lists with numbers to just plug in to get a perfect match. So you may have an easier time of it if you're used to tinting skintones.

I have had to guard my Ashokas for a few days now. I was lucky enough to get an early peek at these gorgeous things over the weekend, and people were practically yanking them off my feet to get at them. Just look at the festive colors and that beautiful ruffle detail, I don't often use the F word, but I will for these... Fatpack. BeeBee's a SLinky Goddess

Siddean Munro of SLink gets better and better with every release. Her latest, the BeeBee ankle boots are, in a word, spectacular.

Today, Siddean released a special festive limited edition version of red & green, with a white fur trim and some little jingle bells. I'm not normally a holiday type of girl, but one look at these made me change my mind. Now, I already had the fatpack of these luscious leather cuties, because I hightailed it right over as soon as I got my notice of their existence, but I needed the festive ones too!

I love all of the interesting features of these, like the strap going under the heels and the zipper tab. The suede and the leather textures are amazingly done, and Siddean tells me besides (legitimately) sourcing the actual textures, the entire rest is all hand-done.

Each colour is L$650 each, and if you're like me and prefer to buy fatpacks where possible (it's a sickness, an awesome sickness), it's only $2900, which is slightly more than 50% off! The Xmas edition is only $150.

Prestigious Boots!

Hey all!

I'm so happy that I took the plunge and asked Anessa if she'd ever want me to write for On Your Toes, because as a long time fan of both shoes and SL, it's perfect :-) Anessa has been doing some amazing blogposts for the SL Footwear Expo, which is ending tonight at 8pm SLT (if I'm home from dinner out :P). In any case, hi!

Ever since I returned to SL a few months ago, I've been in love with my Bax prestige boots. The second I saw them for the first time, my heart skipped a beat, and it didn't start up regularly again until I had not only bought the fatpack, but also put on every colour and tried all the options.

And then the other day I heard a rumour, saw a picture, got wind of some news: they're coming out in suede! Of course, I was very excited, even though many many amazing shoes have come out in the past few weeks (gawd, I love shoe fair!).

I IM'd Bax as soon as she asked for a group invite to rez something new at the fair, breathlessly asking if it was true, if she was putting out the suede boots at the fair, and all I got was an enigmatic "maybe". So I went instead to stalk her at the mainstore. I saw her and one of her very nice CSR's there, fitting boots for customers. I stood around, taking in the ambience, and then Bax very kindly offered me some review copies, *and* let me send my shoe fair partner-in-crime some boots too!

Enough chatter. More boots!

As you can see, the boots are in some fairly luscious colours. At first, I wondered where my favourites were from the leathers pack, but then I came to realize that it only makes sense to have some completely new colours! I love all the rich tones, and the suede texture is pretty perfect as well.

So for the numbers: each colour package - black, brown, green, purple and blue - is L$875. If your favourite colour is fatpack, then that will cost only L$3499. But that's a screaming good deal when you think about it. There are four tones in each colour pack, and the extras alone are hugely amazing. If you put these on at the store, then you can be fitted by one of their experts, or do it yourself because it's super easy. Once that's done, you can put on any other pair you happened to have bought, and it remembers your fitting! A blue menu box will come up and ask you if you want to use the same fitting parameters, and then fit them automatically for you. It's absolutely amazing. Bax was telling me that she was updating the leather boots to have this feature as well, so if you have yet to see or buy these boots, there's no better time.

StyleCard: COCO Backless Ankle Boots

So, I wanted these hot little Christian Louboutin boots for Christmas, and COCO sent them a few weeks early! The Backless Ankle Boots from Cocoro Lemon are just as yummy as their real life inspiration, and definitely worth having in Zebra, Leopard, or Black. There still seems to be some dramatics in the Second Life blogging community, attacking certain designers for replicating real life styles or photo sourcing garments, while others who are doing the same thing are overlooked or applauded for their innovation.

I am here to tell you that most, if not all, of the top footwear designers have taken heavy inspiration from the best, and it doesn't take long to find them all over google images, if you try looking. Do I have a problem with this practise? Absolutely not. Do I like being able to wear a Louboutin or Gucci look-a-like shoe in SL, one I could never afford or comfortably wear in RL? Yes I do.

I have covered the issue before, and maybe it is time to do another little show and tell with the pictures I have been collecting, until then let us try and remember... very few of the content creators of second life are actually just creating replicas of items they themselves design or hold copyright to in first life. Most designers in second life came here with a desire to make things that people would enjoy owning, and more often than not they had to learn a new skill set to do it... making sculpties, texturing, and prim construction. Even when a design resembles a real world creation, we can still appreciate what it takes to bring it to fruition in a virtual world.

This Christmas, even if your RL purse strings can't accommodate everything on your wish list, make your footwear fantasies come true, even if it is only in SL.

The SS10 collections keep rolling in – this time it’s Velour’s. Launched in 1997 by Per Andersson, Velour started out as a store which sold deadstock clothing from his grandmother’s old shop. He then opened Nostalgi, which mixed in deadstock clothing with his own remakes and interpretations of that clothing – which eventually evolved into Velour.

I have been dress boots boy since college days. In early 80's I bought my first pair of black Florsheim Imperial and rest is a history. After wearing 4 pairs of Imperial I discovered another fine Florshiem product..Royal Imperial dress boots in black and burgundy. Enjoyed nearly 7 pairs and it was discontinued in mid 90's breaking my heart least to mention.Since then wearing Florsheim Duke and upto my 8th pair.Duke is nowhere near the Royal Imperial but Duke does have 'classic features' fine workmanship and a perfect fit.Duke by Florshiem goes well with suits for the office and goes even better with jeans. Even horses respond well to its heel during horseback ridding! Based on my personal use and experience Duke by Florsheim is strongly recommended for fashion oriented men!!

This is the first time i have ordered Florsheim Shoes.They are well made and have nice soft padding around the top. They are sized correctly so order your actual size. I ordered too big. I will re-order the right size this time. I do recommend them. I will be buying more. I can't believe how long I have been missing this kind of comfort.

I just bought my second pair of these Florsheim shoes. They look dressy but are extremely comfortable. My first pair lasted about nine months of fairly regular wear. The old pair still look OK, but are a bit worn on the inside.

This is no empty boast. Syed Naqiz Shahabuddin, director and part owner of Florsheim Malaysia, is speaking from personal experience, being a loyal follower of the brand himself.

"I've known the brand for the longest time – I bought a pair of Florsheim shoes for my graduation, my first day of work, and even for my wedding!" he said.

According to him, there are many loyal "Flosheimites" in Malaysia, many of whom have visited the flagship Florsheim store which opened its doors in 1 Utama, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, on July 7.

"There are a lot of hardcore Florsheim followers who were very excited about the store, and came here to look at the range and pick up a pair as well," Syed Naqiz said.

Motivated: Syed Naqiz Shahabuddin is director and part owner of Florsheim Malaysia.

"These guys know a lot about the brand and the shoes – they'd come in and tell us they only wear Florsheims, and some even take off their shoes and show them to us!"

Though the brand may be relatively new to Malaysians, it is one of the oldest and most trusted American brand of shoes, having been established in 1892 by founder Milton Florsheim.

Why did it take so long to arrive at our shores?

"Florsheim went through a period of restructuring the past few years. In 2002, the original Florsheim family bought back the company, and they have restructured and realigned the brand," said Syed Naqiz.

The company recently expanded to Asia, with stores in the Philippines, Indonesia, Hong Kong and now, Malaysia.

Spoilt for choice: Florsheim caters to men and women.

Besides the usual comprehensive range of Florsheim shoes (which includes casual as well as formal styles), the store in 1 Utama also carries the exclusive and slightly more high-end Imperial range, as well as the Comfortech range – shoes engineered specially for maximum comfort, perfect for those who are always on the go.

Florsheim also has a range of ladies shoes on display at the store, and Syed Naqiz is planning to expand that section in the near future.

"The response to the ladies shoes has been quite good – some ladies have heard of Florsheim shoes for men, and were pleased that we have a ladies section as well."

With so many types of Florsheims, how does one determine which one to buy?

Syed Naqiz explained that men usually have different criteria when it comes to buying shoes. Some are dictated by the price, while others prefer shoes that are comfortable. There are also those who would buy a shoe based on the latest fashion.

The first thing Syed Naqiz does when a client steps into the shop is assess his style of shoes.

"Most men will not stray too far from what they are used to wearing. If you come in wearing a pair of vintage design Brogues, then I'll take you to that particular section. If you're wearing sharp pointed shoes then, I'll point you to that section," he said.

So what happens if customers come in wearing sneakers or sandals?

"Well, we'll just ask a few questions to gauge what they prefer and to find out what kind of shoes they are looking for. Then we recommend the shoes based on what they prefer," he said.

Ranging from RM599 to RM800 a pair, the shoes are not exactly budget-friendly. But, according to Syed Naqiz, Florsheim shoes are well known for their quality, durability and comfort.

"A pair of Florsheim shoes can last you five to 10 years, provided you take good care of them. In fact, the pair I bought for my graduation back in 1997 is still in good condition!" he said.

"Many Florsheim followers get so used to the shoes that they keep coming back for the same design, even after we stop producing them."

The key to making shoes last is to take good care of them, and to have several pairs and rotate them every other day, Syed Naqiz added.

"Preferably, one should not have just one pair of shoes and wear that every single day. You should have a few pairs and rotate among them. This way, you allow your shoes to recover from the wear and tear of each day."

While he reckons that Florsheim shoes outshine other brands because of their durability and comfort, the store also offers a one-year warranty for Florsheims purchased anywhere in the world.

"If the shoes you've purchased have a manufacturing defect, you can bring them to us and we'll try to help you fix it somehow," he said.

The Berkley beef-roll penny loafer is made with a genuine hand sewn moccasin construction, and features a leather upper and a durable leather sole. This is a classic Florsheim shoe and sells for $90 which is not a bad deal.

Well guys, these are my babies. They are so durable I’m sure they will outlive me.

My Love Affair For 29 Years

I love my Florsheim shoes pretty much the same way some people love their pets. The older they get, the most affection they get from me. This love affair goes back a long time.

I saw a Florsheim shoe for the first time when I traveled to New York in October of 1980. I was being promoted to Sales Supervisor of marine fuels and lubes by Texaco and had to spend 15 days in New York and 15 days in London and Brighton to shape me up. It was be best experience in my life. But that’s another story.

In New York, I was staying at the Roosevelt Hotel; the same hotel where famous musician Guy Lombardo played for thirty years. On a cold Sunday afternoon, I decided to go out and explore the city. It was time to meet the beast face to face. I went window shopping at Manhattan’s famous Fifth Avenue.

The windows displays were gorgeous. It was October and the stores were getting ready to make the big killing in December. In one of those windows I spotted the most beautiful shoes I’ve ever seen. I couldn’t resist the temptation of taking a closer look. Only to look I said, since my budget was extremely limited and I was in foreign lands. When I exited the store, my Net Worth had decreased by $50. Plastic money helped me out—Visa.

Since then, I’ve been completely faithful to Florsheim shoes. Not even once have I faltered in my love affair with this leather product. Even as we speak, I have four pairs of Florsheim shoes. They are the only ones I have. Here they are:
